It’s official – registration for Rocktoberfest 2009 is now open! Visit http://rrgcc.org/register/ to register yourself and others for the weekend.

Friday:

  • Camping and parking is included and is on site at the Natural Bridge Campgrounds (click for directions).
  • First choice of camping spots (limited sites with water and electric hookups)
  • First dibs at vendors and all their demo gear, including gear from:
    Black Diamond, Petzl, La Sportiva, Sterling Ropes Five Ten and others..
  • Climbing films featured by Dead Point Magazine and music DJ’ed by our man from the south, John “Cletus” Wilcox.
  • Fun and games.. and did we mention all the vendors and demo gear!
  • Access to the dyno comp to either toss in your hat or heckle from the sidelines.

Saturday:

  • The Clip and Go Comp Climbing competition at the Pendergrass-Murray Recreational Preserve – Sore Heel Hollar Competition will be based on endurance – number of bolts clipped and the difficulty of the route will both factor into the point system.
  • Sign up is from 9-10am at the Registration Desk or at the Sore Heel Parking Lot.
  • The competition will last from 10am to 5pm and the winners will be announced at the venue on Saturday night.
  • Free YOGA class Saturday morning at 9:30.  Please bring your own mat. 

Saturady evening will host plenty of music, food, gear, a dyno comp, and plenty more..

Saturday Night:

September 26th at Rockquest, Cincinnati: Benchmark Outfitters will put on a comp to benefit the RRGCC

This September 26 in Cincinnati, at RockQuest Climbing Center, Benchmark Outfitter is putting together a climbing competition to benefit the RRGCC. Starting at 5pm, climbers will compete for excellent prizes from vendors like The Benchmark Outfitter, Sterling Ropes, Arc’Teryx, and La Sportiva. And while they’re pulling down, the $25 entrance fee will go to support the RRGCC in our mission to secure the PMRP.

On Saturday, September 12 and Sunday, September 13, Mountain Gear, in cooperation with Red River Outdoors, will be presenting its 3rd annual UCLIMB event, on the RRGCC-owned PMRP. UCLIMB is a fun event dedicated to bringing people from across the country closer to the outdoors by learning to climb in a comfortable small-group setting with other amateur climbers. Professional instructors will guide you through the basics of climbing, safety and conservation. This weekend adventure is an ideal introduction to the world of rock climbing. Mountain Gear is a strong supporter of both the PMRP purchase and the RRGCC’s educational mission of promoting responsible climbing.

Meet at the Roadside Lot at 8:00 am (please try to carpool as much as possible).
Dress for outdoor work (with optional afternoon and evening climbing apparel).
Tools needed are shovels, picks, pry bars, spades, rakes, loppers, pruners, and trash bags.

Projects include:

1. Relocate start of main trail closer to the parking lot.
2. Install a sign to display the rules for this area.
3. Install more water bars on trail from parking lot up to the base of Roadside Attraction.
4. Build steps where needed.
5. Redo the cribbing at the base of the slab routes.
6. Remove litter.
7. As many other tasks as we can get done!

2/7/2009 RRGCC Meeting/Party, You’re Invited

On Saturday, February 7, 2009, the RRGCC will be holding a meeting at Torrent Falls, followed by a party. During the meeting, which will start at 1:00 pm, new Board members and officers for the coming year will be elected. During the remainder of the meeting details of the RRGCC’s events and other programs for 2009 will be discussed. Climbers interested in becoming involved as volunteers are especially encouraged to attend this meeting.

The party will start Saturday evening at 6pm, also at Torrent. After serving for six years on the RRGCC Board of Directors, Dr. Bob Matheny will be retiring from the BOD. All are invited to come to the party and help us thank Dr. Bob for his service to the Red River Gorge climbing community! As with other events held at Torrent people are encouraged to carpool due to the limited parking available at Torrent.

Strategic Planning Meeting

UClimb is a fun event dedicated to bringing people across the country closer to the outdoors. Learn to climb in a comfortable small-group setting with other amateur climbers.
