Together, they’re putting on a Reel Rock Tour event for the benefit of the RRGCC. Check out what they’re putting on next month! We’ll see you there!

Help support the Red River Gorge Climbers Coalition and have a great time watching some great climbing films at the University of Cincinnati: Campus Recreation Center, 472 Main Street, Cincinnati, OH.  All proceeds benefit the Red River Gorge Climber’s Coalition Sponsored locally by: Benchmark Outfitters , RockQuest, and University of Cincinnati: Campus Recreation Center .   Door prizes provided by Benchmark and Rockquest.  Find it on Facebook. About / History

The REEL ROCK Film Tour brings the best in climbing and adventure films to local audiences across the globe. REEL ROCK shows are exciting events where climbers and outdoors lovers come together to celebrate and the ultimate in adventure filmmaking. Prize giveaways, appearances by top climbers, and fundraising for non-profit organizations always add to the fun and community of REEL ROCK events. For the sixth annual film tour, co-founders Sender Films and Big UP Productions are taking audiences to the edge of what’s possible. From climbing the world’s most difficult frozen falls, to the hardest big wall free climb and crazed highline antics, these heart pounding tales of superhuman skills will leave audiences wanting more.

History

REEL ROCK founders Josh Lowell and Peter Mortimer have been producing and directing climbing and adventure films for over a decade, with devoted audiences around the world. Their work has been featured on NBC, NPR, and The New York Times, and has won a Sports Emmy Award, plus dozens of awards at international film festivals. After organizing small tours for their individual film releases, Lowell and Mortimer realized the huge demand for exciting live events in the outdoors community and combined forces to create The REEL ROCK Film Tour in 2006. In 2010, REEL ROCK screened in over 200 locations world-wide, drew over 55,000 audience members, raised over $15,000 for non-profits, partnered with more than 150 retailers, university outing clubs and climbing gyms, and won copious media coverage and critical praise.

These groups will be learning the ropes, so to speak, around the PMRP. Please plan to avoid these areas during this weekend. It’s a small favor for a big event and we all thank you ahead of time for making accommodations! Some of the walls that will be affected:

Phillip Gall’s of Lexington is kicking Rocktoberfest off by hosting Jonathan Siegrist, Emily Harrington, and Sam Elias as they talk about their adventures and share some of their stellar photos of even more stellar locations. Grab a friend and head over Thursday, October 7 from 7-9pm and take a stab a winning gear including harnesses, jackets, draws, and more from Black Diamond, The North Face, and Arc’teryx. And if you happen to miss the Lady Luck, Phillip Gall’s is offering to take 10% off your entire purchase just for attending, a perfect chance to catch a deal to replace that ratty rope of yours.

Jonathan Siegrist, Emily Harrington, and Sam Elias make this pit stop on their way to the Red for Rocktoberfest.  The athletes will be signing posters and answering questions and helping us to raffle off Black Diamond, The North Face, and Arcteryx gear following the presentations. All proceeds from the raffle will go to the RRGCC.

You know you've always dreamed of it..

So.. we’re a little excited about this.. but we’re going to have full on jousting at this year’s 10th Annual Rocktoberfest (October 8-10). Yep, that’s right, get your onesie and mouth-guard out from retirement, get those dreams of American Gladiator glory going again, and get ready to rumble.

We’re still working on the dunk tank, crate stacking, the dyno comp, the route climbing comp, and a few other events.. so get on the ball (or should we say platform) and go register. And while you’re at it, go get that dude that sends all your projs at the gym.. it’d be nice to bat them around a bit, no?

And yes, we’re serious.

With temps in the mid-90s and humidity making the Red feel a bit more like you’re climbing out of the Panama Canal, we think sometimes the best thing to do is to watch a few climbing videos to get you jazzed for cooler temps and training.

And we’re more than thrilled to tell you that CORE will be featured on Saturday night (that’s October 9th for those without Rainman-like skills) at this year’s Rockotberfest.

Friday:

• Camping and parking is included and is on site at the Natural Bridge Campgrounds (click for directions).
• First choice of camping spots (limited sites with water and electric hookups)

Saturday:

• The Clip and Go Comp Climbing competition at the Pendergrass-Murray Recreational Preserve – Sore Heel Hollar Competition will be based on endurance – number of bolts clipped and the difficulty of the route will both factor into the point system.
• Sign up is from 9-10am at the Registration Desk or at the Sore Heel Parking Lot.
• The competition will last from 10am to 5pm and the winners will be announced at the venue on Saturday night.
• Free YOGA class Saturday morning at 9:30.  Please bring your own mat. 
  

Saturady evening will host plenty of music, food, gear, a dyno comp, and plenty more..

Saturday Night:

• Camping and parking is included and is on site
• Free swag from every angle! T-shirts, posters, stickers, gear and much more.
• Silent auction with a ton of top end gear from our gracious sponsors!

September 26th at Rockquest, Cincinnati: Benchmark Outfitters will put on a comp to benefit the RRGCC

This September 26 in Cincinnati, at RockQuest Climbing Center, Benchmark Outfitter is putting together a climbing competition to benefit the RRGCC. Starting at 5pm, climbers will compete for excellent prizes from vendors like The Benchmark Outfitter, Sterling Ropes, Arc’Teryx, and La Sportiva. And while they’re pulling down, the $25 entrance fee will go to support the RRGCC in our mission to secure the PMRP.

On Saturday, September 12 and Sunday, September 13, Mountain Gear, in cooperation with Red River Outdoors, will be presenting its 3rd annual UCLIMB event, on the RRGCC-owned PMRP. UCLIMB is a fun event dedicated to bringing people from across the country closer to the outdoors by learning to climb in a comfortable small-group setting with other amateur climbers. Professional instructors will guide you through the basics of climbing, safety and conservation. This weekend adventure is an ideal introduction to the world of rock climbing. Mountain Gear is a strong supporter of both the PMRP purchase and the RRGCC’s educational mission of promoting responsible climbing.

Saturday, June 13th, 2009
8:00 am till ???
Meet at the Roadside Lot at 8:00 am (please try to carpool as much as possible).
Dress for outdoor work (with optional afternoon and evening climbing apparel).
Tools needed are shovels, picks, pry bars, spades, rakes, loppers, pruners, and trash bags.

Projects include:

1. Relocate start of main trail closer to the parking lot.
2. Install a sign to display the rules for this area.
3. Install more water bars on trail from parking lot up to the base of Roadside Attraction.
4. Build steps where needed.
5. Redo the cribbing at the base of the slab routes.
6. Remove litter.
7. As many other tasks as we can get done!
