June 4, 2007 – Shannon Stuart-Smith Resigns From RRGCC Board

April 28th, 2008 by Paul Vidal

Shannon Stuart-Smith has resigned from the RRGCC Board of Directors ending over a decade of service to the Red River Gorge climbing community. It was Shannon’s dedication to preserving climbing access in Red River Gorge that led to the founding of the Red River Gorge Climbers’ Coalition. Shannon served as the Executive Director of the RRGCC until 2004. After she left that position she was invited to take a seat on the RRGCC Board and was elected to serve as the Secretary of the organization. During her tenure with the RRGCC, Shannon also served as a Regional Coordinator for the Access Fund and served a term on the Access Fund Board. In 2006 Shannon became involved in the social justice non-profit, Kentucky Conference for Community and Justice and accepted a position as the Interim Executive Director of that organization. Shannon’s legal expertise, non-profit expertise, drive, and determination will be sorely missed by the RRGCC but will surely be a great asset for the KCCJ. Our sincerest thanks and appreciation go to you Shannon for all your years of hard work and dedication to keeping climbing open in Red River Gorge!
