June 5, 2006 – USFS Recognizes RRGCC & Access Fund Status

April 28th, 2008 by Paul Vidal

Both the Red River Gorge Climbers’ Coalition and the Access Fund have been recognized by the US Forest Service as consulting parties to a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) concerning the management of heritage resources in Red River Gorge. Other groups that have been recognized as consulting parties to the agreement are the Kentucky Organization of Professional Archaeologists, Wolfe County, and the six Tribal Governments that have status in Kentucky. As a result of the MOA a Heritage Resource Management Strategy will be developed. This strategy will provide a framework for evaluating and protecting archaeological sites as well as for prioritizing areas for future research. The Final MOA is posted on the Daniel Boone National Forest, Limits of Acceptable Change website.
