RRGCC Members

The 2023 membership year is here! Sign up for a membership today, and you will be automatically enrolled for the 2023 swag! For those that have already enrolled, thank you for your patience as we are work to ensure that those membership packages get sent out as soon as possible.

During the RIAD event, we met Ashton Blakemore and asked her why she chose to support the RRGCC by becoming an official member. Here is her response:

Ashton Blakemore - “I am a Red River Gorge Climbers’ Coalition member because I want to help preserve the climbing here in the Red River Gorge because I really love and respect it.”

Motherlode Hill Parking Beta

The Motherlode hill is often intimidating for first-time visitors and those with 2-wheel drive vehicles. Most vehicles are able to get down the hill just fine, however coming back up can be difficult. Although it may be challenging, driving down the hill provides opportunities to park in the Motherlode (bottom of the Motherlode Hill), Flat Holler, Sore Heel, and Drive-By parking lots, which are all maintained by the RRGCC. Access to RRGCC properties is free and RRGCC parking areas are free to the public. So, you do NOT need to pay to drive down the Motherlode hill.

On top of the Lode hill, there is a pay-for-use parking area, which is NOT associated with the RRGCC. If you choose not to drive down the Motherlode hill, then this parking lot is available. However, you must follow the owner's instructions and ensure that your payment is processed correctly. This parking lot is heavily monitored and your car will be towed at your own expense if you do not follow the instructions.

As always, please follow these guidelines before leaving your car and setting off to the crag.

  • Carpool whenever possible - Ride together to save space in the parking lots.
  • Park close to your neighbors - When parking next to another vehicle, give them time to exit the vehicle and close their doors before parking. This way you can park closely and save space for others.
  • Do not park in creeks or streams - Only park in designated areas. Flora and fauna do not appreciate the oil and other chemicals that your vehicle may leave behind
  • Do not block oil equipment, pit toilets, or roads - Parking in front of oil equipment and structures may jeopardize access to the climbing areas that we love.
  • Leave no trace - Clean up after yourself before leaving the parking lot. Pack out what you pack in!

Seasonal Raptor Closures

Please be mindful of the local wildlife when climbing this spring. Seasonal raptor closings are in effect for the following routes:

  • Wall: Graveyard (MFRP)
    • Gallows March
    • New route under development
    • Grave Digger

There are a pair of nesting barred owls on a ledge that these routes intersect so please respect them and avoid these climbs.
